Fed up with funding being siphoned away from local schools...
Read MoreThe majority of us love and believe in our public schools. They are the place where many of us learned not only our educational fundamentals, but also how to be in community. They are where we met our best friends and where we developed relationships with people who were different from us and learned to value our community.
Public education is under attack by right wing extremists. They are stoking culture war fears to try to undermine and defund our schools. Bullying, censorship, and harassment are not the values that represent our schools or our communities. We are organizing because we are tired of this phony outrage.
We are working for common sense solutions to the real problems our public schools and students are facing. Honest, accurate and fully funded public education is the foundation for a just, multiracial democracy.
Down Home NC has joined forces with the Education Justice Alliance (EJA) to create H.E.A.L. (Honest Education Action & Leadership) Together NC, part of a national initiative from Race Forward that is building a movement of students, educators, and parents in school districts across the United States.
Our goals include:
Parents and educators all across the state are organzing as Public School Strong. Public School Strong teams go to their local school board meetings to check in on whats happening and to speak out for public ed! If you want to build a local Public School Strong team in your school district, or plug into one already forming, join us!
Down Home is working with our organizational partners, parents, teachers and public school advocates across the state as H.E.A.L Together NC to stand up for public ed!
If you are looking to plug in and learn more about the issues facing public education, our schools, our teachers, and our students then join us for the next H.E.A.L Together NC Statewide Call!
