Hey, Amanda! Can you tell us a little bit about why you wanted to join the Down Home team?

As a working-class mother I have felt unseen and unheard by my local representatives since living in North Carolina. I joined Down Home as a member in 2020, volunteering to reach out to my neighbors and friends to discuss how they feel about how they are represented. Down Home’s plan and model to bring working class people together to advocate for our needs exemplifies the meaning of grassroots movements.

What experiences are you are bringing with you into your role that you hope will help guide your work here?

Since the pandemic, I have been working with multiple non-profit organizations to protect voting rights, advocate for poor and unhoused populations, and secure accountability for corporations that pollute our environment. I am a Software Engineering student at Arizona State University and am focused on using the technological advancements in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in the nonprofit space to ensure the working class can benefit from these tools.

What are you most excited about doing in this movement?

I am passionate about the ideal of this country, where we are governed by collective representation free from corruption and greed. I believe whole-heartedly in our democracy, our right to vote, the freedoms we are guaranteed in the Constitution, and the welcoming of immigrants. My primary goals are to ensure that the poor and working class have the most advanced technological tools to fight back against corporate greed, biased narratives, and corrupt politicians.

Okay. This last question is important: Enuf or Cheerwine?
I used to export Cheerwine from North Carolina when I lived outside of the state, so I’m going with my hometown specialty: Cheerwine
