Community members are fighting agaist massive medicaid cuts that are currently proposed in congress.

Medicaid is my lifeline. If Republicans cut it, I could die early.

Since being diagnosed, Medicaid has been my lifeline, providing the infusion treatments that allow me to function daily. Without this support, my quality of life would drastically decline, and I could face premature death.

That’s why I am deeply concerned about the devastating impacts Republicans’ proposed Medicaid cuts would have on me, and countless other North Carolinians in our state’s small towns and rural communities.

“I should have drowned” — Public space as a sacred trust

I should have drowned when I was 9 years old in 1966… I remember the current. I remember sinking and never hitting any bottom. I remember gulping the murky brownish greenish water. I remember fighting with my arms in the wet darkness… If in your heart you do not understand the role of healing which public pools can play in our county, then I fear you my friends are continuing to be victimized by our collective historical trauma of racism.
