Everything you need to know about voting in the midterms!

The North Carolina General Election is November 8, 2022. Voters will elect a U.S. senator, members of the U.S. House, NC House and Senate offices, County Commissioners, Sheriffs, and School Board members. 

Here’s what you need to know to cast your ballot and make sure it’s counted!

Register to Vote:

  • The deadline to register for this election is October 14, 2022 by 5 PM.
  • You can register to vote here.
  • Same-day registration during one-stop early voting is available through Nov 5th

Vote by Mail:

  • North Carolina voters can apply for a vote-by-mail ballot. The last day to request a vote by mail ballot for this election is November 1, 2022 by 5 PM.
  • You can apply for a ballot to vote by mail here.
  • When returning your ballot by mail, it must be postmarked by November 8, 2022 and received by 5 PM on November 14, 2022.

  • If you will be voting in person, please follow all guidelines and contact your County Election Official for all the options on how to vote or return your ballot in person.

Voter ID Requirements:

  • If you’ve voted in North Carolina before, registered in person, or provided ID at the time of registration, you don’t need to show ID to vote.
  • If you’re voting in North Carolina for the first time, registered to vote by mail or online, and didn’t provide ID when you registered, be sure to bring a copy of your photo ID or other qualifying documents that shows your name and address when you vote.  
  • If you’re voting by mail, you will be asked to provide your state-issued ID number or the last four digits of your Social Security number on your absentee ballot. 
  • If you are providing a state-issued ID number, but are voting in North Carolina for the first time, registered to vote by mail, and didn’t provide ID when you registered, be sure to include a copy of your photo ID when you return your ballot.
