Welcoming Liz, our new Johnston Field Organizer!

Welcome to Down Home! We are really excited to have you here. Can you tell us a little bit about why you wanted to join the Down Home team?

I joined Down Home because I wanted to see change in my community and be a part of something committed to seeing that change happen. I have always believed that there is power in numbers and having an organization like this for poor/working class people in rural areas like JoCo will show that they too have a voice.

What are you bringing with you into your role that you think will help guide your work here?

I am new to organizing but I have a background in public health education and have always loved helping others. I was born and raised in Johnston county and come from a mixed background so I have always heard both sides of any story. I have seen decisions made by elected officials that have affected everyone no matter the color of their skin so I would like to bridge any gap that our community has. My experience growing up in rural areas and seeing how working class people can feel helpless is my motivation to educate myself and others while bringing us together.

What are you most excited about doing in this movement?

I am most excited about bringing JoCo together and getting out and talking with people in my community. I know that we all are facing similar issues and I want to be able to connect and show that they are not alone. I am very passionate about seeing my community thrive and progressively move forward. I have a young son who will be starting school soon and I want to ensure that our community has the tools for him to be successful.

Which Blue is the Correct Blue? Duke or Carolina?

There is only one correct blue and that is Carolina Blue. #GoTarheels
