Take Action! The COVID Relief Bill Could Be a Win-Win if the NCGA Expands Medicaid

Today President Biden signed a $1.9 million COVID relief bill – bringing stimulus checks, increased unemployment benefits, and additional funding for vaccine distribution on the way. This is a huge win– but we can’t stop here. There’s something else in the bill that we’ve got our eyes on: a financial incentive for states like ours to expand Medicaid.

Right now, more than 680,000 North Carolinians are living in the healthcare gap, earning too much money to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to buy insurance on their own. North Carolina is one of 12 states that have not yet expanded Medicaid, creating this unconscionable gap. Our General Assembly has cited costs as their reason for not doing it. But the COVID relief package passed just hours ago would bring billions of dollars into our state over the next two years IF we expand Medicaid.

This bill could be a real win-win if the NCGA acts to expand Medicaid. Our loved ones could finally get the health coverage they need and deserve and our elected representatives can get the cost covered five times over. Now is the time to take action.

Email your elected representatives to let them know that now is the time to expand Medicaid.
